MASS COMMUNICATION AND DEVELOPMENT IN THE UNITED ARAB EMIRATES

Auther : By: Dr. Saleh Abu Isba

This paper deals with the Role of the mass media and development in the United Arab Emirates.  This Role is examined in light of the fact that the mass media in the third world countries are controlled by the governments.  However, the participation of the masses is essential so that development can be achieved.  It is through the mass media that people become aware of the issues and problems of development, how they can be solved and how development plans can be fulfilled.  The mass media can be considered, therefore, as the link between the people and their government.

The paper also surveys the development plan in the U.A.E and Law-1, 1972 and Law-3, 1973 which were passed in this respect and also the Role of the National Planning Council and the Ministry of Planning.

It deals with the different requirements of those plans in the U.A.E. and how they interact.
