THE EFFECT OF NATIONALITY AND EDUCATIONAL LEVEL OF MOTHERS ON CHILD-MOTHER RELATIONSHIP IN THE GULF AREA

         This study aims at investigating the effect of nationality and educational level of mothers on child-mother relationships in the Arab Gulf Countries.  1131 mothers were selected randomly from 7 states in the Arabian Gulf.  A questionnaire was distributed, and the following results were obtained:

 1. In the area of early child-mother relationship significant differences were found to be attributed to nationality only.

 2. In the area of toilet-training, significant differences were found to be attributed to nationality, educational level and the interaction between the two.

 3. In the area of mother’s style of playing with the child, significant differences were found to be attributed to nationality, educational level and the interaction between the two.

 4. In the area of mother’s treatment of the child, significant differences were found to be attributed to nationality, educational level and the interaction between the two.

 5. Regarding the differences between nationalities in the area of early child-mother relationship, the Saudi group was mot significant.

 6. Regarding the differences between nationalities in the area of toilet-training, the United Arab Emirates group was mot significant.

 7. Regarding the differences between nationalities in the area of playing with the child, the Oman group was most significant.

 8. Regarding the differences between nationalities in the area of mother’s treatment of the child, the Saudi group was most significant.

         Some recommendations were drawn as to how to improve mother-child relationships in the Gulf countries.
