Rules of Publication


Journal of the Gulf and Arabian Peninsula is a refereed quarterly which offers scholarly papers and studies in topics of relevance to the Gulf and Arabian Peninsula. Material submitted for publication need be in accordance with the following requirements and guidelines:


-The researcher must have either the Ph.D degree or a participant with a Ph.D holder.
- Be of direct relevance to the Gulf and the Arabian Peninsula.

- The research should not have more than two authors.
- Manuscripts have to be novel original work characterized with innovational modernity. Priority will be given to contemporary thoughtful studies.
- Not previously published or submitted for publication elsewhere. Contributors must testify to this in writing.
- The submitted work should not be part of a thesis or a dissertation previously prepared by the researcher.

- The study should contain 7000 - 10000 words, including footnotes, appendices, and bibliography.
- Authors are requested to send their articles electronically or typed on A4 Font 14 (Arial) with 1.5 space, with a copy on a CD.
- Authors are requested to provide an abstract of their research in both Arabic and English (about half a page each, approximately 300 words) bearing the author's name and title of
- The front page of the article is to bear in both English and Arabic the full title of the study, name of author/s and academic rank.
- Authors need to provide a brief bio (for principal and co- researchers) including name, academic degree, year of graduation and university, academic rank, area of specialization,
affiliation, postal and electronic addresses, phone and fax numbers.
- Authors are expected to follow standard research methodology, documentation and referencing.
- Tables and illustrations are expected to be properly referenced and documented.
- Accurate authentication of new references according to the American Psychology Association APA.
- Drawings with geographical distribution are preferred to appear in colour; authors, however, will have to bear the ensuing costs.
- The Journal bears all publishing expenses.
- No honorariums are paid for publishing articles, reviewing books or any other activity unless commissioned by the Journal.
- Submitted material is not returned to its authors whether approved for publication or not. Authors are notified in case their submission is declined.
- Once published, 25 off-prints of the article are sent to the author together with two copies of the Journal.
- The Journal reserves all copyrights. A special permission to wave these rights must be obtained from the Journal in case the author seeks permission to reprint elsewhere, provided three years have lapsed from date of publication

In-Text References :

     References should be cited within texts in accordance with American Psychological Association (APA) referencing and accreditation style, in which the author last name followed by the publication year is written between parenthesis with page numbers. Citing references at the end of the paragraph as follows: (Algarni, 1991, p.25) (Al-Nafeh and Al-Rawi, 1995, p.30); while citing at the beginning of the paragraph as follows: Al-Hamad (2007, p.75) pointed to ... according to Smith (2011, p.11)... Citing more that one author at the end of the paragraph should be as follows: (Kramer, 2000, p.11; Steel and McDonald, 2000, p.65). Citing references of more than five authors should be as follows (Arminio et al., 2000, p.90). References to two sources should provide family name and year of publication for both, e.g. (Al Zahrani, 1424 AH. p.21.; Al Rabdi, 1419 AH, p.27) and (Roger, 1991, p.40 ; Smith, 1994, p.34). Reference to the same author within the same year of publication should run as follows: (Al Thaher, a2004, p.88; b2005, p.17) and (Dyck, 1999a, p.181, 1999b, p.99). Quotations have to be accurately cited and documented with page numbers adequately provided, e.g. (Suleiman Al Qudsi, 1998, p.54) or (Jones, 1997, p. 59). References to works, chapters, or sections used in the research without direct quotation must also be provided. References to new editions should include both the old and the more recent one, e.g. (Morees (1980) 2000, p.54). Works published by organizations or establishments should be acknowledged by reference to the name of the publishing body, e.g. (Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Science, 1999, p.151).

Bibliography/Works Cited :

     Every work cited in running text or footnotes must be listed in the bibliography or works cited at the end of the essay. Here, Arabic references should precede those in other languages if any. The entries are not to be numbered. References list consists of two main parts: the first part includes the Arabic references which are ordered alphabetically according to authors last name and by dismissing the (Al) notion within this categorization, regardless of the type of the reference (i.e. refereed article, book, dissertation). The second part includes the International references which are ordered alphabetically according to authors last name regardless of the type of the reference (i.e refereed article, book, dissertation).

A- Citing book in the reference list :

- Example of citing in English reference :

Author. (year). Book Title. Volume Number. Edition (e.d). Place of Publication (State - City): Publisher.

B- Citing articles published in journals :

- Example of citing in article published in English journal :

Author. (year). Article Title. Periodical Title, Volume (Issue), Page.

Footnotes/Endnotes :

- All footnotes need to be numbered in continuous order.
- All tables need to be footnoted, an * sign is to be added for any special comment or relevant statistics; and an ``N.B.'' for specific remarks.
- Page numbers are placed at the end of the footnote.

Publication Procedures :

- An acknowledgement is sent to authors within 15 days of receipt of submission.
- The editor-in-chief notifies authors of readers' evaluation and decision within two weeks of receiving the latter's reports.
- In case authors are requested to introduce changes to their work, their amendment should be received within three months following the request.
- The editor-in-chief may provide an author whose paper is declined with the readers' evaluation and comments if requested, observing meanwhile the anonymity of the referees and their reserved right to refrain from responding to the author's defense or explanation.
- The order in which articles appear in the Journal is often determined by technical factors.

III. Book Reviews : 

     The Journal offers reviews of books recently published which are related to the region of the Gulf and the Arabian Peninsula. The books should meet the following criteria :
- The book should be original making a good contribution to the field it tackles.
- The reviewer should be a specialist in the subject matter of the book.
- The Journal does not accept book reviews that have been submitted or published elsewhere.
- Reviews are expected to offer a brief summary of the book highlighting its positive aspects as well as its shortcomings if any, and should not exceed 5 pages in length.
- Reviews should offer information on the following :
* Full title of the book reviewed.
* Full name of author together with a brief bio, contact details; full publication data including place, date of publication, name of publisher as well as number of pages.
* The reviewer's name along with his/her brief bio.
* It would be desirable if the reviewer could provide the Journal with a copy of the reviewed material.
* Reviewers receive an honorarium only if commissioned by the Journal.

IV. Dissertation Abstracts : 

     Only abstracts of M.A. and Ph.D. dissertations with topics related to the Gulf and Arabian Peninsula are offered by the Journal provided those are relatively recent and make a significant contribution to the area of study. The abstracts are not to exceed ten pages in length. Abstracts should include the following :
- An introduction highlighting the significance of the topic under study.
- A resume of the topic and its key concepts.
- A description of the research, analytical approach, methodology, and tools.
- A conclusion comprising the research findings, results and recommendations.
     The front page of the abstract should cover the full title of the dissertation/thesis, name of author and supervisor together with their brief bios (in Arabic and English), year, and number of pages. 

V. Conference Reports : 

     A special section of the Journal offers reports on seminars, conferences and symposia held in Kuwait and abroad. The reports are to cover the conference's program and main activities and highlight the conference topics and submitted papers as well as the proposed recommendations.
