The following is a detailed list of the Journal’s distinguished achievements:
First: Publishing a Series of Documents:
Since its first issue in 1975, the Journal of the Gulf and Arabian Peninsula Studies has always contained a section on documents, which were then released in a series of publications containing the most important official documents of the GCC countries covering outstanding political, economic, social and cultural events in the region from 1975 to 1982. The series was then stopped, and currently documents are published in a regular section in every issue of the Journal.
1. Documents of the Gulf for the year 1975 were published in 1979 in one volume.
2. Documents of the Gulf for the year 1976 were published in 1981 in one volume.
3. Documents of the Gulf for the year 1977 were published in 1982 in one volume.
4. Documents of the Gulf for the year 1978 were published in 1983 in one volume.
5. Documents of the Gulf for the year 1979 were also published in 1983 in one volume.
6. Documents of the Gulf for the year 1980 were published in 1984 in one volume.
7. Documents of the Gulf for the year 1982 were published in 1986 in one volume.
Second: Organizing Relevant Scientific Symposia:
1. Symposium on “ The Future of the Gulf and Strategies for Joint Arab Cooperation”. The symposium was co-sponsored by the Journal of the Gulf and Arabian Peninsula Studies and the Center for Arabian Gulf Studies, University of Basra, March 29-31, 1981. Research papers presented in the symposium were later published in three volumes.
2. Symposium on “Water resources in the Gulf Region and Arabian Peninsula” organized by the Journal, March 3-5, 1981. Research papers were later published in four volumes.
This was the first symposium organized solely by the Journal. Papers presented stressed water issues in relation to civic development. They also tackled issues related to prospects of water resources development in the region.
3. Symposium on “Sea Ports in the GCC States”, held on April 13-16, 1985. Research papers presented, numbering 35, were published individually. These researches stressed the study of the most important sea ports and commercial centers on the Arabian Gulf revealing the enormous commercial significance thereof.
4. Symposium on “The Unification of Legislations and Laws in the GCC Countries”, November 21-23, 1987. The symposium was held on the occasion of the 10th Regional Meeting of Centers for Gulf Documents and Studies, held on the same days. Research papers were published in 1988 in one volume.
These researches centered around the idea of unifying laws and legislations in the GCC countries as a means of strengthening relations and ties among their peoples. Unification of laws and legislations is undoubtedly a first step in this direction.
5. Symposium on “Unity of History and Fate among GCC States and Inevitability of Co-operation”, November 15-17, 1993. This was jointly sponsored by the Journal, the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Science (KFAS) and Center for Kuwaiti Researches and Studies. The Papers presented were later published in two volumes.
These research papers analyzed and investigated the role of other GCC countries in the Liberation of Kuwait and showed their exemplary contribution as a model of co-operation in the Arab world.

In 1994 (a turning year in the history of the Journal), the Minister of Education issued a decree No. 7, dated May 29, 1994, to establish the Center for the Gulf Arabian Peninsula Studies, affiliated to the University of Kuwait. That was a natural development for the Journal whereby both the Journal and the Center became fully independent of one another by the end of 1997. The Journal maintained its place among other refereed journals of the Academic Publication Council. Currently, the Journal has four regular section: articles in Arabic and English, book reviews, conference reports, Arabic and English Bibliographies. There are also other occasional issues and publications.
In the year 2000 and on the silver jubilee of the Journal, an analytic index was published to familiarize researchers with all articles and research papers published in the Journal since its first issue in 1975.
