Arab culture is characterized by the authenticity of historical continuity and the flexibility of openness to other cultures. This book, al-sādih wa-l-bāghim (The Singing Birds and the Gazelles) by Ibn al-Habbāriyya (d. 509 AH) combines authenticity and flexibility. The genre of stories told by animals may go back to Ancient India and the Panchatantra, the source of Ancient Persia’s Stories of Kalīla wa-Dimna, translated into Arabic by Ibn al-Muqaffa, in the second century AH, but it continued to develop across time, both in prose and verse. Therein lies the importance of Ibn al-Habbāriyya’s manuscript found in the Zahiriyya library of Damascus, which is made available to you here: it reaffirms the authenticity of this narrative and didactic genre in the Arabic language, and the endeavour to interact with it through editing and verifying its text.

Retirement pensions, benefits, and compensation for military personnel in social security laws and military service laws in the State of Kuwait Dr. Abdulmajeed Khalaf Mansour Alenezi Associate Professor - Saad Al-Abdullah Academy for Security Sciences The military personnel are the protective shield of the country on which we depend to defend and confront any external or internal aggression. They are the invincible dam in the face of all those who try to disturb security due to the intensity and discipline of the military work and the various physical and field training performed in a manner guarantees their readiness to work in extreme circumstances. While performing their job duties, the military personnel face many dangers when dealing with external enemies on battlefields or when they play their role in protecting lives and money and catching criminals, including injury, death, or being captured in captivity. Therefore, the legislator assigned them a special law that regulates their retirement affairs and the payment of compensations and benefits they deserve, which is Law No. 69 of 1980 regarding the Military Retirement Pensions and Benefits Law which gave the military rights and benefits that are commensurate with the nature of their military work and is a way to prevent dropping out of military personnel from the bodies in which they work and are responsible for attracting patriot young people to engage in the military corps. And because it is difficult for the military class and those similar to those subject to the laws of retirement pensions and benefits for the military personnel to know what is happening to the social insurance laws of amendments and implementing decisions, due to their many ramifications and details, this book came to define the concept of social insurance and track the development that occurred to it, learn about the scope of application of retirement pension and benefits laws for military personnel in terms of time and persons subject to them, state the service periods that are calculated for entitlement to retirement pension or benefit and the entitlement to pensions, benefits, compensations and other insurance rights when they are exposed to any social risks covered by the law, and view other regulations adopted by the legislator in order to increase pensions and benefits without neglecting the procedures to be followed when the emergence of the dispute over the application of the provisions of those laws.

News: Sources and Writing Methods Prof. Menawer Bayan Alrajehi Mass Comm Dept. - Kuwait University State of Kuwait The news industry has become a distinct industry with its own characteristics. Several factors have intertwined and interacted in it that contributed to the development of its methods, means and methods of delivering it to the public. The second half of the last century has witnessed the emergence of new types of methods of editing and writing news, and the perception of news has changed regarding definition and concept, and the process of preparing it has become an elaborate and complex industry that has gone beyond the usual description of current events to become a precise process that has its own means, methods and philosophy, especially the last decade of the last century in which the communication and information revolution reached its climax, during which the news industry, its preparation and production methods witnessed a great development, and this development extended to include the language of the news, the way it used to be edited and the templates for its formulation and the form in which it reaches the recipient. Regarding these shifts in the news-making process, this book is concerned with presenting an academic attempt that combines the theoretical aspects and the practical foundations for writing the news. This book includes five chapters; The first chapter includes the concept of news, its components, objectives and divisions. As for the second chapter; it presents the forms and types of news coverage and sources of news, in addition to an explanation of news follow-up and the professional responsibilities of a journalist while performing his journalistic mission. While the third chapter contains the elements of news and criteria for selecting suitable news for publication, this chapter also introduces the qualities and skills that must be fulfilled in a successful journalist, in addition to the ethics that the journalist must possess. Then comes the fourth chapter to present - with theoretical explanation and practical application - the process of writing the news, its forms, and methods of drafting the various technical components of building the news, such as the title, the introduction, the body and the conclusion. Finally, the fifth chapter provides an explanation of the art of electronic news, its characteristics, the technical structure of electronic news and the rules for writing it, in addition to the specifications of the electronic editor and the ethics of practicing electronic journalistic

Infection and Inflammation Multimodality Imaging withEssential Pathophysiology
Price: KD.4.000
Pages: 337
Infection and inflammation have been known since the ancient time of Pharos and are still with us. Furthermore, these conditions are increasing, and new conditions appear, such as the Covid-19 disease. These diseases are affecting too many humans of different ages and cost humanity lives and tremendous economic losses. These diseases are affecting too many humans of different ages and cost humanity lives and tremendous economic losses. Accordingly, it was thought to write this book to shed some light on the importance of this medical issue and its diagnosis effectively using different medical imaging modalities in correlation with other diagnostic methods and pathophysiology of relevant diseases. Since the diagnosis of various inflammatory and infectious diseases is not straightforward clinically, there is a need for imaging in a significant number of cases. Furthermore, because the medical imaging field has tremendously expanded, too many modalities, including molecular imaging, are available for the diagnosis of diseases and specifically inflammatory conditions. Since the findings of infectious conditions on imaging mirror the pathophysiologic changes, it is necessary to understand clearly the pathophysiology of such diseases. This understanding is crucial to choose the proper imaging modality or modalities for each patient and effectively interpret them based on this understanding. This book dealing with such a critical and common medical condition is meant as a reference for students, trainees, researchers, and practicing physicians to facilitate understanding of the effective strategy for the diagnosis of this condition by different imaging modalities. The first chapter of the book covers necessary fundamental aspects of inflammation and infection, while the second chapter covers the diseases’ pathophysiology. The third chapter is devoted to diagnosis in general outlining clinical, laboratory, and imaging diagnosis for necessary correlation. The fourth chapter covers in detail imaging diagnosis of soft tissue infection/inflammation, while the fifth chapter deals with the imaging diagnosis of musculoskeletal infections with their different forms. The last chapter covers the problematic condition of fever and inflammation of unknown origins and the role of imaging in its diagnostic dilemma. Many tables, diagrams, and images are included to facilitate simpler benefit and quick spotting of certain facts and diagnostic algorithms. A glossary is included at the end as a quick reference for some terms.

Discourse Analysis: From Classical to Digital
Price: KD.2.500
Pages: 160

Many and serious scientific attempts appeared that sought to detail the issue of discourse in terms of: Concept, types, methods and interpretation. These attempts revealed a great expansion in the connotations of the discourse concept. Despite the emergence of the term "discourse" in the field of linguistics in the West throughout the 20th century, yet the roots of the discourse are found deep in Arab culture. In that context, this book came as an attempt to present a way to understand the discourse, its methods, analysis tools, and its various schools of study from an Arab point of view, with a brief summary of discourse analysis in the fields of media, politics and religion to clarify the specificity of each discourse in terms of looking at the concept and the most prominent methods of analysis used in each field from these areas. The authors conclude the book with a chapter on discourse analysis in social networking sites to discuss new concepts such as the relationship between discourse analysis and network analysis in the Web 2.0 era, and the subsequent impact of electronic developments on the characteristics of discourse and its analysis tools.

Changeable Earth An Introduction to Physical GeologyText Book Series20
Price: KD.8.500
Pages: 485
Changeable Earth An Introduction to Physical Geology Prof. Mohammad Abdul Rahman Al-Sarawi Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences Faculty of Sciences Kuwait University This book provides an integrated scientific article in the science of physical geology, where it discusses the most important aspects of Earth history that occur as a result of geological phenomena and the range of factors collectively or individually modify Earth. The scientific material for the book is clearly displayed and easy to follow-up, being supported by figures and illustrations. The book is divided into nineteen chapters covering the range of topics relevant to the knowledge of the physical geology. The first chapter is concerned with the definition of geology and processes that affect the Earth’s surface, and the general characteristics of the earth’s crust. In addition, the components of the earth and the generation of rocks are included. This chapter also discusses the origin of planet Earth and the various modern theories regarding the formation of the Earth and its relationship to the solar system. The second chapter deals with the mountains, continents and crustal deformation, where it addresses the evidences for mountain building events and crustal deformation. Also identified are the types of mountains and plate movements, and examples are given of selected localities that show this deformation and the emergence of continents and oceans. Chapter 3 discusses the internal and external processes affecting the formation of the Earth’s surface, referring here to the importance of the earth movement, geothermal waters and groundwater in the construction of the internal shape of the earth, and the impact of these external features. Many of the external processes responsible for the construction of the overall geomorphology of the surface of the Earth have been identified. Chapter 4 discusses mechanical, chemical and biological weathering, where several examples of different types of weathering and the most important factors that control them have been presented. This chapter is one of the important chapters in the identification of those changes which occurred on the Earth’s surface due to physical, chemical and biological effects. Chapter 5 defines the components of the soil, the causes of formation and the factors that affect the differentiation of soil horizons, as well as the soil classification and identification of different kinds and conditions that contribute to its formation. Chapters 6 , 7, and 8 includes the basic types of rocks in the formation of the earth (sedimentary, metamorphic and igneous), the rocks cycles, and the factors that control the transition from one rock type to another is reviewed. These three chapters include the names of all the rocks and minerals in addition to classification tables for the main and sub- divisions of rock types. The 9th chapter discusses an important topic in the science of the physical geology, the geological time scale, including all eras and times of historical and geological periods. The most important features that distinguish each period of these historical periods are also reviewed. Chapter 10 addresses landslides and all their distinct forms, and the climatic conditions that contribute to each type of landslides. The theme of such needs large collection of photos and illustrations. The chapter also includes a review of the modern classification in the field of landslides. Chapter 11explains the subject of deserts in terms of origin and formation, in addition to the importance of wind and water in the formation of desert features. This chapter also includes a special set of photographs of the Arabian deserts, particularly in the State of Kuwait. Chapters 12 and 13 discuss the surface and ground water topics, reviewing the water cycle in nature and effect of water in the formation of the different geological features. Chapter 14 reviews the theme of seas and oceans, including discussion on the importance of waves and the various currents, and tidal cycles in the formation of monuments, and marine forms. This chapter includes a detailed explanation of the formation of beaches structurally and sculpturally, in addition to the effect of near shore currents in sediment movement, and the impact of construction work carried out by human on the coastal equilibrium in general. Chapter 15 includes a detailed explanation on the subject of glaciers and their importance in the formation of the Earth’s surface. This chapter also discusses the most important modern theories in the formation of the glacial periods, along with the importance of climate change, sea level fluctuation and structural movements in the formation of many geological features during such periods. Chapter 16 discusses the karst features and the reason for the emergence of karst features on the surface of the earth, and included in are the details on the karst forms in nature, and the effect of the change in the groundwater level in the formation of caves. Chapters 17 and 18 discuss two interconnected topics (earthquakes and volcanoes) explaining the close relationship between the tectonic plates and the formation of earthquakes and volcanoes. This chapter also includes an extensive classification of the types of earthquakes, volcanoes and their positions, as well as tables that illustrate the most important earthquakes and volcanoes that have occurred in various parts of the world. This chapter also discusses tsunamis (seismic waves) that have occurred recently, and particularly those waves that hit East Asia in 2004. The last chapter, chapter 19 includes the theory of plate tectonics and its importance in the origin of continents and oceans, aided with sufficient figures and illustrations, which facilitate the tracking of these modern theories. I have sought, through scientific preparation of this book, to add a new book in Arabic to our Arab and Gulf libraries.
