'Zaabalawi' by Nagib Mahfouz and 'The Writer's Need' by George Moore: A Critical Comparative Study (in Arabic)
Auther : Emad A. Al-Khateeb
This is a critical comparative study of Nagib Mahfouz’s Zaabalawi, and George Moore’s ‘The Writer’s Need’.
The research is based upon five matters: (1) the method of investigation into delusion explained by the two stories, (2) the matter surrounding the journeys undertaken by both protagonists, (3) the characterization of both protagonists, (4) the meeting between the narrator and the protagonist in dream visions in both stories, and (5) the nihilistic content of both stories.
Prior to conducting the present research, the author studied the material present in the two stories found in the research literature.
The study is prefaced with an introduction to the topic of the imagination as found in modern Arabic literary criticism studies, the methods utilized in comparative literature research, and an introduction to the period during which Nagib Mahfouz’s wrote the story under discussion.
