Contributions of Rifaa Tahtawi to the Arabic Language (in Arabic)

Rifaa Tahtawi is one of the 19th Century Scientists, who were interested in the problems of the Arabic Society in that era, especially language; because it is the mirror of society, as well as thoughts groove.

Altahtawi devoted his work to the problem of Arabic Grammar. He wrote a book for that aim. The book’s name is “Attohfeh Almktabieh for Simplification of Arabic Language”. His objectives appeared on the book’s name “Simplicity of Arabic Language”.

The Article begins by Identification of Altahtawi and his studies, then the grammatical origins of his book, starting from the kuran across the other origins … all of which were instrumental in the formation of his views.

Altahtawi’s views were selected from many Arabic Grammar schools, he chose the simplest opinions and left the ambiguous ones .. to reach for a tested grammar, seeking pupils for it. Although his views were based on selected tradition, yet he innovated some specialized ideas.

Altahtawi book by means of his grammatical opinions, and the other selected ones, aquired the name of grammarian, and his trends recorded certain characteristics, most of its that built on exercising grammar, far from the theoretical trends which reflected on the students hating the grammar and denying it.

The article is concluded with an objective evaluation of the negative as well as the positive contributions of Rifaa Tahtawi in the Science of Arabic Grammar.
