Dialect of the Ego and the Other in pre-Islamic Poetry (in Arabic)

Auther : Ali Mustafa Asha

The research paper tackles the controversy of the ‘ego’ and the ‘other’ in Pre-Islamic poetry in the light of an analytical study of chosen examples of this poetry. In addition, it reveals the philosophical and social roots of duality of ego and other via the presentation of studies that dealt with this question and held counter attitudes towards this subject.

The research examines aspects of the argument between the poles of this duality which emerge through various pictures in the Pre-Islamic poetry, such as: belonging to the tribe, the effectiveness of the ‘self’ via conforming to the high values of the society, alienation due to crumbling of the tribal bond, criticizing the social reality and the worries about the group destiny.

The argument goes into a sharp dimension when the ‘self’ lives in isolation, and seeks a model that remedies the weakness and cracks of its internal world, which is a result of alienation and decline of the values of life.

Moreover, the research aspires to set up a conception of identity that confirms the presence of the individual ‘self’ – the root of effectiveness and inventiveness in this world.
