Literary Heritage Books and Their Examination of the Prophet’s Hadith in the Third Century A.H. (in Arabic).

Auther : Hela Almanea

The sayings of the prophet (blessings and peace) presented a marvel manifestation in rhetoric, sermon, anecdotal examples, and a field to apply language refinement and correct use of idioms in new connotations. This research aims to show the importance of discovering the appearance of the prophet’s hadith in literary heritage books, as they all refer to and cite the prophet. The research problem revolves around the following questions: how did the literary heritage books in the third century A.H. accept and receive the prophet's sayings (blessings and peace)? What are the literary subjects in which literati included the prophet's hadith? Did these literati intend to adjust the prophet's hadith in their work?
The research shows the most well-known literary works of the third century A.H. which cited the prophet's hadith. The study identifies the trends of these literary works as well as the extent to which the literary works care about including accurate sayings of the prophet. This study depended on a descriptive-analytical method.
The research reached several results: In the third century A.H., the literary works of al-Jahiz and Ibn Qutaybah included the prophet's hadith the most. Also, some of the prophet's sayings caused linguistic and cognitive controversy, which contributed to the creation of rhetorical concepts, such as eloquence and criticism issues like the issue of Islam and poetry. The literary heritage books varied in their adjustment of the prophet's sayings due to several reasons. The first reason is that the process of collecting and documenting the prophet's hadith in the third century was not yet finalized, which weakens or invalidates the hadith. The second reason is the consequences of summarizing and shortcutting, as mentioned by some literati, such as Ibn Qutaybah and Ibn al-Mutaz.
The study recommends tracing the prophet’s hadith in literary heritage books throughout their different ages, showing the relation of the hadith with literary and rhetorical manifestations, and identifying its weaknesses.
