Kuwait’s Impact on the Life of the First Saudi Minister of Petroleum, Abdullah Hammoud al-Tariki (in Arabic).

Auther : Nour Al-Habshi

This study examines the impact that Kuwait had on the life of the first Saudi Minister of Petroleum, Abdullah Hammoud al-Tariki, starting with his upbringing to the final stages of his life, especially since Kuwait – during the first stage of al-Tariki’s life- had a clear impact on his life, and this impact continued to the moment of him leaving his position.
These types of studies document history from a fresh perspective with all that is needed to prove mentioned viewpoint, using a modern method that examines a figure, who left a mark on the history of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Al-Tariki’s impact on the oil economy was no less important than his impact on the region’s countries, through the idea of establishing OPEC -an organization for oil affairs- as a global international organization.
The objective of this research is to look at an influential figure that played a major role in the oil field of the Arab countries. In addition, this research clarifies the influence Kuwait had on his life.
The study is divided into two parts. The first part deals with his origins and upbringing. The second part examines Kuwait’s impact on al-Tariki’s life. It discusses Kuwait’s effect on him via various factors; perhaps the most important factor was his meeting with Kuwaiti rulers, Sheikh Abdullah al-Salem al-Sabah and Sheikh Sabah al-Salem al-Sabah respectively. The paper also alludes to his political retirement after the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait in 1990.
The paper concludes with the result that a figure like Abdullah al-Tariki benefited the oil sector in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia alike, and that his life deserves study and attention.
The researcher recommends that there should be more studies of figures that contributed to the enrichment of the Gulf society in general and the Gulf countries in particular, even if each country conducted a study separately and in various fields.
