That which Has No Word Structure nor Meaning: An Attempt to Solve the Problem of Meaningless Morphemes and Monemes (in Arabic).

Auther : Khalid Alkindi

The term, "al-Zwa’id [meaningless morphemes and monemes]" in Arabic Grammar has caused much confusion. There is a lack of knowledge about the concepts that this term denotes. Researchers have accused grammarians of insulting the Qur’an, seeing as they believed that there are meaningless morphemes and monemes in it. The aim of the study is to explain the concept of "meaningless morphemes and monemes". At times, it refers to words that have no verbal or meaningful value in the structure. Other times, it alludes to words that provide a verbal function but do not indicate meaning. The concept could also be dealing with words that have no syntactical effect and do not cancel the effect of others. Sometimes it is associated with words that are misplaced in the structure. The methodology of the study was based on presenting the opinions of ancient scholars on the issue of "meaningless morphemes and monemes." The results of the research show that semiotic and pragmatic theories were also used to expand on the concept of the benefit provided by the "meaningless morphemes and monemes", not limiting them to term and meaning. This is achieved by having the concept include every influential relationship between the sign and other elements, such as the speaker, the recipient, the subject, the mental image, the reaction, among other signs.

Keywords: meaningless morphemes and monemes, benefit, meaning, structure, position.
