Features of Doctrinal Thoughts in Morocco during the Modern Era (in Arabic).

Auther : Ali Mazyan

The research explores the features of doctrinal thoughts in Morocco during the current stage of its history. As people have become increasingly preoccupied with literature, footnotes, verses, and abbreviations, attempts have been made to renew the mode of reasoning in various matters of faith. For example, Ilmu al-Kalam (the science of debate) sought to retrieve its original function, which was to defend the principles of Islam and to refute non-Muslims’ contradictory opinions. This was achieved through the debates carried out by al-Hijri while he wandered through many European cities with Christians and Jews. He employed arguments with precise testimonies and proofs, for he was aware of the intellectual transformations that the northern bank of the Mediterranean Sea had witnessed. These transformations could have created an environment conducive to the return of Ilmu al-Kalam to its original function.
Al-Yossi based his work in Ilmu al-Kalam on a perspective that corresponds to the developments of the period of time that it occurs in. Al-Yossi enhanced Al-Hijri’s line of work, in that he focused on renewing the subject of the science and its methodology; he redefined the meaning of Al-Kalam and emphasized on its function, "Argumentation," that establishes the principles of religion and disproves the falsifiers. However, these attempts quickly diminished when the state, led by Sultan Muhammad Ben Abdullah al-'Alaoui, eradicated Ilmu al-Kalam and removed it from the official doctrinal teaching curriculum in Morocco.
The features of doctrinal thoughts were strengthened by the communication between the two wings of the Muslim world (East and West) and through their doctrinal debates on issues such as acts of worship and prophetic science.
