Narrative Movement in Ibn Ma'sum al-Madani's Journey: Salwat al-Gharib wa Uswat al-Arib [The Consolation of the Stranger and the Solace of the Prudent] (in Arabic).
Auther : Hamad al-Belayhed
The paper deals with the journey that Ibn Ma'sum al-Madani undertook in 1120 A.H. / 1708 C.E., while he was still a young fourteen-year-old man. He started recording his journey nine years later and called it The Consolation of the Stranger and the Solace of the Prudent. His journey lasted 48 years altogether. This study seeks to reveal the narrative movement in the text in accordance with a methodical approach that focuses on the constituents of the external form that frames the act of transition and the pace of movements within the stations of pausing and crossing over and how all this relates to the story and its events. The study also pays attention to the text's internal discourse and its workings, as well as to the shifting of events from the context of history to that of the imaginary and how that relates to the temporal and symbolic aspects of the discourse.
