The Image of Andalusia in the Eastern Geography in the First Four Hejri Centuries
Auther : Yousef Bani Yassen
The research aims at tracing the increase in knowledge on the geographical image of Andalusia in the studies of eastern geographers during the first four Islamic centuries. It looks at the way the image is mentioned in a certain set of books that deal with countries, their geography and roads, with the aim of understanding the degree of acquaintance of Arab Muslims with Andalusia before their arrival to it and after they left it in the fourth century. This will emphasize that Muslims did not have enough information about Andalusia before the conquest. Their knowledge grew gradually and developed as a result of mutual trips between the Orient and the West (Andalusia). Thus, their knowledge of Andalusia shifted from an incoherent phase to a scientific one based on personal observation.
