Welt Literature: A Post- Colonial Perspective (in Arabic)

Auther : Shahla Al-Ujayli

This research paper deals with Global literature and Weltliterature at this stage of the history of literary studies using the perspective of cultural studies. It explores the emergence of these concepts since the ends of the eighteenth century, which fits with Goethe's (1749-1832) vision, that was described by Mohammed Ghuneimi Hilal (1917-1968) in his famous book Comparative Literature (1953) as a difficult concept to be achieved. Based on post-colonial studies, the paper questions Hilal's opinions. It discusses the writings of global imperialism; writings which provide a global response manifested through novels written by novelists of the colonies, showing special, common and universal features with differences at the levels of language and particular details. The paper identifies the key concepts which are global literature, and postcolonial studies. It inspects the major aspects of the literary works of imperialism , and tackles its universality. The applied side of the paper inspects these concepts in a typical post- colonial novel which is No One Sleeps in Alexandria by the Egyptian novelist Ibrahim Abdel Megid who shows a perfect model of merging the fictional with the historical levels of narration and gives an example of the opposition of hybridity and purity with a super sense of cultural imitation.
