A Historical Perspective on the Issue of Jerusalem in the Negotiations between the Sultan Salah al-Din al-Ayyubi and Richard 1 "The Lion Heart" of England (583-588A.H/ 1187-1191 A.D) (in Arabic)

This study provides a historical perspective about the issue of Jerusalem in terms of the negotiations between Sultan Salah Al-Din Al-Ayyubi and King Richard 1 "the lion Heart" of England (583-588A.H/ 1187-1191 A.D). Jerusalem was considered the central point in negotiations. The study attempts to show the position of the parties on the issue of Jerusalem in every stage of the long negotiations which led to the signing of the Al-Rmala peace agreement. The study reviews, critiques and analyzes the texts which mentioned the contacts and negotiations between the parties.
The study also describes the strategy of the Sultan Salah Al-Din Al-Ayyubi concerning Jerusalem, and the position which Jerusalem represented to him in particular, and for the Muslims in general, and the way in which he conducted the negotiations with Richard at all stages. In addition the study describes the strategy of Richard concerning Jerusalem, and the position which Jerusalem represented for him in particular, and for the Christians in general, and the way in which he conducted the negotiations with Salah Al-Din.
The study is based on a historical approach by collecting criticism and analysis of historical narratives which dealt with different stages of the negotiations. The study is also based on historical sources, including some modern Arab and foreign studies.
