Ethics, Emotions and Cognition (in Arabic)

Auther : Raja Bahlul

This paper is an exploration of the current debate between cognitive and non-cognitive theories in Ethics. A preliminary exposition of Emotivism is offered through a discussion of the attractions and the difficulties which this view entails. It is argued that while we must insist on there being a non- contingent relation between ethical judgments and emotional states, the relationship should not be construed as a causal relationship, as Emotivist philosophers tend to think. Finally, an account of the relationship between emotional and cognitive aspects of moral judgments is given and defended through an argument for extended analogies between emotional and perceptual judgments.
