Freedom in Modern Islamic Discourse with specific reference to Sheikh Mohammed Al-Khadir Hussein (in Arabic)
Auther : Bassam Al-Batoush
This paper aims to present a general concept of freedom in modern Islamic discourse, by studying the contributions of the most prominent symbols of the modern reform and Islamic ideology in the 19th and the 20th centuries. It gives special attention to the attitude of Sheikh Mohammed Al-Khadir Hussein towards the issue of freedom.
It also clarifies the aspects of the intellectual vision of Sheikh Mohammed Al-Khadir Hussein of the concept of freedom with its political, economic, and social applications by shedding light on the status given by Sheikh Mohammed to the issue of freedom within the modern Islamic reform project. Modern Islamic discourse at that stage was not presented as a complete intellectual achievement that steps up to the level of Independent Judgment (Ijtihad), and it did not crystallize a comprehensive philosophical and intellectual vision of the issue of freedom emerging from the essence of Islam and its general goals.
