The Revolt of Sheikh Bushir Al-Harthi in East Africa 1888-1889 (in Arabic)

Auther : Benyan Sa’oud Torki

This paper studies the revolt of Sheikh Bushir Al-Harthi against German colonization in Eastern Africa. It is divided into four main axes: the first revolves around German colonial eruption in the mid eighties of the nineteenth century on the Eastern coast of Africa, concentrating mainly on what follows this colonial eruption in terms of the German-British agreement to divide this area between them, ignoring the objection of Sultan Zanzibar and forcing him to accept  this new situation.

The study reviews reasons for the outbreak of Sheikh Bushir Al-Harthi’s revolt afterwards. The most important of these is the objection of coastal inhabitants, Arabs and Africans, to transfer subordination of the area form the hands of Arabian authority to the hands of the German East Africa company, added to reaction of inhabitants and the development from resentment and refusal to a sweeping revolt against the Germans .Then, the study throws light upon the character of an Afro-Arabian revolutionary leader who was born in sultanate of Arabian Zanzibar and belonged to the Arabian tribe of Al-Harth.

In addition, the study deals with outbreak of further revolts on the areas of Bagamoyo and Vengani.
