The Arabic Type Styles Appropriate for Labeling Physical, Cultural, and Hydrographic Features (in Arabic)
Auther : Nasser Mohammed Salma
Previous research of the wide variety of Arabic type styles has always ranked these styles as follows: Reqa, Farisi, Eejazi, Naskh, Thuluth, Rehani, Dewani, Taleeq, and Jaly-Dewani. This research attempts to select the most appropriate Arabic type styles for labeling physical, cultural, and hydrographic features on maps. This study indicates that, while Reqa is suitable for labeling physical and cultural features, Naskh fits best for hydrographic ones. Since most agencies in Saudi Arabia traditionally use only Naskh type style for labeling all features on maps, this study recommends Naskh for labeling hydrographic features only, and calls for appropriating Reqa to the other features.
