Some Social and Sociopsychological Factors Related to Cigarette Smoking by University Students: A Study of Male Students at King Abdulaziz University (in Arabic)

A sample of 730 students drawn from King Abdulaziz University male students were surveyed to determine the association between cigarette smoking by young adults and some social and sociopsychological factors. The data was obtained from a sample drawn from King Abdulaziz University male students.
With respect to social factors, the study found that cigarette smoking by fathers, elder brothers and peers greatly affect young adults smoking behavior. The findings have not confirmed the existence of a direct relation between adults cigarette smoking and their parents education and family economic status.
Concerning sociopsychological factors, the study has found direct relationships between adult cigarette smoking and disobedience of family rules, indifference and frustration. Feelings of inferiority have not been found to be related to smoking.
