Developing a Family Instability Scale in Kuwaiti Society (in Arabic)
Auther : Hadi M. Ridha
This study is about developing a Family Instability Scale (F.I.S.), which measures a family instability between intact couples in Kuwaiti society. Constructing & family instability scale had different procedures which ended in developing thirty one items that measured family instability. The scale variables acknowledged different previous studies that talked about marital satisfaction, interaction, and relationship in the family (Girman & Gitterman, 1980; Booth, Edwards, 1983; Thorton, 1979; Brinkerhoff & White, 1978; Edwards, G.J. Jeong, 1992, et al., MCCALL & Green, 1991). The developed scales was used with a sample of (1418) married working and non-working women. The FIS has a high reliability coefficient, .94. The reliability coefficient of both working and non working married women group was .94 Concurrent and construct validity of the scale was established. However, fifteen social and psychological scientists were consulted to confirm the validity of the scale. Factor analysis tests were conducted to provide confirmation of the FISs constructive validity. Factor analysis of the thirty-one items yielded a solution with five factors. The Factor structure appeared cleanest when only those items with at least a .30 loading value were included. In addition, a (t-test) was used to find out the ability of the scale to differentiate between different groups (or independent variables). Results of such a test showed the capability of the F.I.S to differentiate between different groups in Kuwaiti society. Different process and procedures of the reliability and the validity prove the competence of the Family Instability Scale in terms of clinical diagnosis and aid to research and field studies.
