The Relationship between Job Satisfaction and Early Retirement of Kuwaiti Employees: A Socio-Analytical Study (in Arabic)

Auther : Khalid Ahmad Al-Shallal

The paper aimed to study the relationship between the level of job satisfaction of Kuwaiti employees, and their attitude towards early retirement. The study was conducted on a random sample of 235 employees working in state ministries. The four basic dimensions of job satisfaction covered are income, business relations, working conditions and the particular job as a career option. In addition, total job satisfaction and the dimension related to early retirement were measured.

This study has used the statistical treatment techniques appropriate to its target. The results are as follows. Around 50% of individuals expressed a medium level of satisfaction with their income, while the proportion with low satisfaction was twice that with high satisfaction. In terms of business relations, most subjects expressed medium satisfaction, while the ratio of answers indicating high satisfaction was 37.5%. The area of working conditions included the facilities provided, clarity of job expectations, holidays, work schedules, the total work burden and so on. It was found that the ratio of low satisfaction with these elements exceeded high satisfaction by 8.1%. Wigh regard to the job as a career, over half the subjects expressed satisfaction with the particular option, although the collective opinion of the group and society seemed to reveal satisfaction from only one third of the sample. Regarding total job satisfaction, the sample was roughly divided into thirds among the low, medium and high levels of satisfaction.

In all of these cases a negative (weak) correlation was observed between the variable measured and the level of endorsement of early retirement. However, the values of correlation coefficients are weak, and have no statistical significance except within narrow limits.
