A Comparative Look at Communication Education in the United States, Europe, and the Arab World

Education in the art and science of communication is clearly a phenomemon of the twentieth century. The profession of programs dedicated to the study of communication throughout the world is stark evidence of its popularity and importance. However, the speed with which educational programs have sprung up has lead to the lack of agreed upon standards in most parts of the world. This problem is most evident in the Arab world.
In its conclusion the paper considers lessons which could be learned from both the American and the European experiences. Finally, a brief look is offered at possible future directions for communication education in the Arab world.
