The Relationship Between Psychosomatic Disorders and the Attitude Towards Mental Illness (in Arabic)

Auther : Yousof Abdel-Fattah

Repeated and continuous disorders sometimes transfer into an organic syndrome. It is affected by several variables such as attitudes. To study this correlation, a group of 112 university students of both sexes were subjected to two main scales. The first one is the Cornell Index, prepared by Wieder et at, and the second one has been prepared by the researcher according to the necessary psychometric conditions.

Results obtained reveal that there are sex differences on all psychosomatic disorders subscales, and some differences on the items of the attitude towards mental illnes scale. There are also fairly significant correlations between some psychosomatic disorders and the attitude towards mental illness of each sex and the total sample. Results are disussed in the light of previous studies and the relevant theories especially those related to the role of stress an individual is exposed to and the chronic feelings related. We have also indicated the importance of counselling in the prevention and the treatment of these disorders.
