The Iraqi Occupation of Kuwait Aug. 1990 & The Tatar Occupation of Al-Sham Lands Dec. 1299 (A Comparative Study) (in Arabic)
Auther : Hayat N. Al-Hajji
This research aims at pointing out the aspects of similarity between the Tartars occupation of Syria and the Iraqis occupation of Kuwait. At the end of the research, an attempt is made to discern aspects of dissimilarity which - penetrated - would prove to be similarities in essence. For the crimes committed in Kuwait can by no means be per-formed by people whose religion is Islam, whose language is Arabic, and whose location is ancient neighbourood.
This study also discusses the concept «Recurrence of History., and questions whether history repeated itself in what happened in Kuwait. The researcher comes to the conclusion that it does not really repeat itself, because events have their own peculiarities. Only the common factor is always «Man» in whom both good and evil co-exist from the beginning of the creation of the universe.
When the Tartars occupied Syria, they were motivated by jealousy, envy and greed. They envied the Mamluk Sultanate: its expansion, invulnerable frontiers, political stability and prosperous economy.
Now, the Iraqis occupation of Kuwait has similar motives: they envied Kuwait: its political stability, prosperous economic activity, strategic situation, and outstanding inter-national status - despite its limited area and small population. They also felt envy toward its main source of revenue, «oil, and they looted all they found in Kuwaiti institutions and houses, together with the gold in the Central Bank and the investments abroad.
The inevitable conclusion of this compatative study is that the similarity of events and manifestations between the two catastrophes resulted from identical motives.
