The Creative Writing of the Novel in the Arab Cultural life (in Arabic)

Auther : Hani Al-Raheb

This research attempts to specify the actual condition of the creative writing of the novel during the last twenty years of the Arab cultural life. It also hopes to envisage new prospects of the Arab novel.

The emergence of the Arab novel as a mature literary output coincided with the emergence of the Arab Middle Class; and its decline did also coincide with that classs decline.

The Arab novel is now facing three repressive authorities. The first two are local: that of the archetypes of traditions and that of the Middle class. The third emanates from the process of acculturation with the West. The influence which these authorities are exerting is either negational or crushing. It penetrates the inner ranges of vision and dissipates it. Part of this negative influence is referrable to the Arab cultural milieu, which is as authoritarian as Middle - class governments.

The projected prospect which concludes this research suggests four path-ways for novelistic creativity: 1) a reviewing of the perspective of the novel through the four aspects of author, text, theses, and reader, 2) the dialectic of form and content, 3) the collective novel, and 4) an active sense of history.
