Salahud-Din's Responsibility for the Failure of the Blockade of Tyre (in Arabic)

Auther : Muhsin M. Hussain

It is probable that there could not be a great leader confronting an enemy who is still in full possession of his entire capabilities and military advantage, and yet his history can become a chain of victories, but what is more reasonable is that the march forward of a leader of this sort would be interspersed with some setbacks and defeats. Indeed, the ordinary annals of history show that each victory scored by a leader could be considered an important event, especially at a time when declination is the prevailing characteristic of the historical stage, yet the case of salahud-din (Yusuf bin Ayyub bin Shadi) was different. Although salahud-din was not defeated at tyre, he had not been victorious either. There is difference between defeat and not scoring a victory.

All the same, what had happened at this fortified town had its importance, to the extent that one cannot be satisfied with the mere refutation of the critical misapprehensions of this great historian, because, then another contemporary historian, that is omadid din al katib who was in the responsible post of the chancery of salahud-din, and his war correspondent, is also directing, in his own way, a criticism to this leader. Therefore, the question is : what, indeed had happened at tyre?
