The Estimation of Cutting Score for A Criterion- Referenced Test Using The Binomial Model Statistical and Empivical Study (in Arabic)

Auther : Salah El-Din M. Allam

In recent years much interest has been shown in the problem of classifying an examinee in competency-based instructional program into one of two mastery states or categories have been proposed in the literature for setting cutting scores.

In spite of the simplicity and robustness of the binomial model, it has not yet been applied to actual test data.

The purpose of this study is to estimate cutting score for a seven multiple choice-item criterion referenced test using the binomial model on the basis of empirical data.

A probabilistic theoretical distribution of proportions of cases at specified levels of competence who would pass and those who would fail if cutting scores were set at various points has been developed using the binomial model.

The actual distribution of the proportion of students at each cutting point is then fitted to the corresponding theoretical distribution for competence level. 70 the results indicate that there are no significant differences between the two distributions. This suggests that the competence level. 70 is appropriate for the group being tested. Factors that has to be considered when setting cutting score for the test which correspond to that competency level are discussed, and further research is recommended.
