Al - Qurain During The Islamic Period (in Arabic)
Auther : Abdul-Jabbar M. Al-Obaidy
Kuwait, known earlier as al – Qurain, is situated at the northern end of the west coast of the Arabian Gulf, i.e. the northern west end of the east coast of the Arabian Penisula. As Kuwait was, and still is, inhabited by people whose roots or relations are strongly tied with the rest of the peninsula, the historical events of the latter are naturally reflected on it.
This study proceeds to discuss the role played by the whole coast known as Bahrain in the Islamic conquests, and to point out its contributions during the umayyad and Ab-basid Caliphates, it discusses as well the role played by the Arabs of the Gulf in international trade in modern times as the whole region has become an area for international colonial competition among European countries, due to the important strategic position of the Gulf.
The main sources of this study consist of the concrete tangible evidence represented by the archaeological remains and finds excavated in the area, beside the historical, geographical and literary material.
We stress in this paper the necessity for the exertion of continuos and serious efforts to search for the roots of the people of the area and to seek the advise of scientists and specialists in the field. We can obtain further knowledge about the history and culture of the region which has remained unknown for years.
