Regional Development Patterns In The Arab World (in Arabic)

Auther : Harb Al Hunaity

The objective of this investigation is to analyse the development process in the Arab World, in order to identify its significant patterns which can be employed as input for classifying the Arab Countries into regional development patterns. Factor analysis has been used to derive the development patterns in the Arab World, meanwhile cluster analysis is employed to derive regional patterns which have been tested by multiple discriminate analysis. In addition, multiple discriminant analysis is employed to recognize the relationships between the development patterns and the associated regional patterns.

The analysis reveals four development patterns. Those are, underdeveloped rural, industrial, social services, and demographic patterns. Based on these findings, five regional patters are recognized.

  1. Regional Pattern I: includes the Sudan, Yemen (North), Yemen (south), and Oman. These countries are positively correlated with the underdeveloped rural pattern and negatively correlated with the industrial and social services patterns.
  2. Regional Pattern II: comprises Kuwait, Qatar,Bahrain, and United Arab Emirates. These countires are characterized by developed social services, high rate of population growth and inflow of migration.
  3. Regional Pattern III: consists of Iraq, Algeria, Libya and Saudi Arabia. These countries are distinguished by positive correlation with industrial and underdeveloped rural patterns.
