Love in Arabian Poems (in Arabic)

Auther : Ahmad M. Al-Khalil

In this study I have taken the meaning, figures, and positions of love in human life, and applied these to some images of love in ancient Arabic poetry. The purpose is to discuss these issues:

- Sadism and Masochism in relation to philosophy of love in the poetry.

- The interaction between the figurations of love and war.

It’s most likely that the concepts of sadism and masochism in the love poems had a link with the cultures and symbols of matriarch when goddesses, such as Ashta, Eizes, Allat and Alozza, dominated mythology, society and art, it’s also possible that the intersection of the symbols of love and war was the aftermath of an interaction between these cultures and the cultures of the patriarchal age in the history of mankind.
