The Killing of the Conqueror (Alfatih) Qutaiba bin Muslim An Analytic Study (in Arabic)
Auther : Ahmed Al Sirri
This study examines the traditions which pertain to the killing of the conqueror Qutaiba bin Muslim in 96 H. it also answers two essential questions which have been answered differently sometimes in a contradictory manner: Did the Caliph Sulaiman bin Abdulmalik sustain Qutaiba in his position as Governor in Churasan or dismiss him? Did Qutaiba recognize the Authority of the New Caliph or rebel Against him?
This study shows, contrary to the received view, that the Caliph Sulaiman did not sustain Qutaiba in his position but dismissed him. Concerning Qutaiba, he in fact, not only recognized the authority of the new caliph, but also tried to improve his relations with him. Furthermore, the study shows that the events which led to the killing of Qutaiba had happened under the impact of change of power in the capital of the Caliph Damascus and in the absence of any formal stand taken by him. Finally, it shows that the caliph sulaiman was not connected at all with the killing of the Fatih Qutaiba, although the latter was a victim of his bad relations with the former.
