Berber in Morocco during the Middle Ages (in Arabic)
Auther : Brahim Boutchich
The berber language has not received much attention by contemporary historians, who consider it purely a linguistic matter. However, it is in reality a historical issue, which is worth exploring on the part of historians too. This paper attempts to bridge the gap along two major axes.
The second axis considers the issue of the exploitation of Berber by reformist movements. Analyses have shown that various political leaderships in Morocco during the Middle Ages used this language in their missions, in order to communicate with their followers, and while waging wars. Some leaders, in the reformist movements wrote books in Berber to explain the aims of their movements or in order to justify their opposition to the Moroccan government. This proves the importance of this language in understanding the historical evolution of Morocco during the Middle Ages.
