Psychological Empowerment of Employees as a Moderator Variable in the Relationship Between Transformational Leadership and Deviant Workplace Behaviors in Governmental Environment in Egypt
Auther : Mostafa M. AL-Kerdawy
Research was conducted on a sample of 384 respondents of directorates services in Dakahliya. Research examined whether the psychological empowerment moderated the effects of transformational leadership (charismatic- idealized influence - intellectual stimulation - individual considerations) on the type of deviant workplace behaviors. The response rate was 65.33%. Results from stepwise regression analysis showed that psychological empowerment played a partial moderating role in the relationship between transformational leadership and the type of deviant workplace behaviors. So, results showed that psychological empowerment did not play a great role in decreasing level of deviant workplace behaviors. Individual considerations had a strong and significant effect on the level of deviant workplace behaviors, but the dimension of intellectual stimulation had a weak effect. Similarly, results showed that the level of psychological empowerment had a significant effect on the type of deviant workplace behaviors, where negative deviant workplace behaviors were decreased when the levels of psychological empowerment among workers was high. In the light of the results of research a set of recommendations were suggested.
