Jordanian Exports: Determinants and Predictions for the Coming Years (2005 - 2020)

Auther : Suleiman W. ALmasaied
Ibrahem M. ALbataynh

This study aims to analyze the determinants of Jordan's exports and the future predictions of exports volume for the coming years (2005-2020), using the most recently developed Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) approach. The empirical results of this study can be summarized as: (1) the bound test suggests that there is an existing long-run relationship between Jordan export (JX) and its determinants; (2) the increase of partners gross domestic product significantly encourages Jordanian exports in both long and short terms; (3) the depreciation of real exchange rate of the Jordanian Dinar enhances exports to major trade partners in the short-run, while having no clear effect in the long-run; (4) in predicting the feature (2005-2020) Jordan's exports will increase with decreasing rates which means that the trade balance gap will be more risky. The study tries to put forward some recommendations to rectify the ever-rising deficit in Jordan's trade balance.
