Traffic Collision Analysis Models: Review and Empirical Evaluation

Auther : Said M. Easa,

& Mohammad M. Hamed

Collision analysis models were classified in this paper into two categories: aggregate and dis-aggregate. A theoretical review of the models was presented, followed by an empirical evaluation of multiple linear, Poisson, negative binomial, and exponential models using additive, multiplicative, and quadratic functional forms. The results showed that the functional form is very important for prediction accuracy. The exponential model with a quadratic form provided the best accuracy, while the linear model with an additive form provided the least accuracy. Also, the multiple linear model with a quadratic form may be preferred over more computationally sophisticated models, like Poisson and negative binomial.
