Exploring Some Determinant Factors Associated with Chat programs Adoption and their Impact on Kuwaiti Students’ Performance: a field Study

This paper investigates the use of chat technology by a sample of students Business Administration(Kuwait University) and its impact on their performance. To achieve this objective, an exploratory research was conducted based on questionnaire administered to 211 subjects and 30 structured interviews. Results show: (1) no difference between male/female students with regard to chat programs usage; (2) no difference between both gender’s with regard to chat frequency as well as time of use; (3) no relationship between chat use frequency and students’ performance; (4) a significant relationship between chat use frequency and social and cultural pressure;and (5) a significant relationship between chat use frequency and personal motivation. In addition, this study reveals the existence of an evolutionary process during chat use. Finally perspectives and suggestions to maximize the positive aspects of chat technology adoption and minimize the negative ones are presented.
