Selected Variables Affecting Employees’ Sick Leave use in the Public Sector in Kuwait

The main purpose of this study was to investigate sick leave use in the public sector in Kuwait. Gender, Seniority, Salary, Job Skill variety, Job autonomy and belief in team work were the variables chosen to relate to sick leave use. Gender, seniority, salary and job skill variety were found to be related statistically to sick leave use. Results of this study led to following conclusion: (1) Women use more sick leave than men. (2) Salary is a major variable in sick leave use. (3) Job skill variety is a very important factor in sick leave use. This study has several implications for policy development regarding to sick leave.
